Wolf Gourmet Blender Review

Soups, and smoothies, and nut butters, oh my! I’m excited to share my review of the Wolf Gourmet High Performance Blender with you all today – it’s been fun times blending all the things together.

Wolf Gourmet High Performance Blender

As is the case with a lot of my kitchen equipment, my blender has seen much, much better days. Mostly, it just hangs out in a dark cabinet due to it’s really bad habit of not quite blending things properly. Ice chunks in my margaritas, lumpy frozen fruit in my smoothies, and not-quite-smooth enough sauces are just some of the unfortunate results I’ve had to live with for the last ten years or so of my blender’s life. Sound familiar?

So, when my friends at Wolf Gourmet asked if I’d like to try out their high-performance blender I was happy to oblige, especially after an on-line sneak peak. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill blender. No, it’s a little more special than that.

Special Program Settings

First, let’s talk settings. You won’t find the regular old settings buttons you find on most standard blenders but, instead, a mysterious red knob with options like smoothie, soup, ice crush, and puree. To test, I started with the ‘soup’ setting.

I cut up some tomatoes, basil, garlic, and a little onion, placed it in the blender, and turned the knob to the ‘soup’ setting. Like magic the LCD screen lit up with a five minute timer and the powerful motor inside revved up and pureed all of those vegetables. Starting slow it worked it’s way up to a powerful blending action. In the last minute or so the blender started heating the soup. I repeat, it heated the soup  so when it was done with it’s cycle all I had to do was pour the hot soup into a bowl and devour. Fresh and velvety smooth hot soup in five minutes made totally in the blender.

Genius.

Next up, smoothies. With most blenders you have to guess which setting is best and for how long to actually blend it making the whole situation high-risk for a lumpy frozen fruit smoothie, which, the last time I checked, is not on anyone’s culinary bucket list.

Wolf Gourmet has got the smoothie thing nailed. Again, it’s a pre-programmed setting eliminating all of the guesswork resulting in, and I am not exaggerating, a smoothie so smooth there has to be another word for it. We’re talking $10 smoothie at your local over-priced smoothie bar. Except you make it at home, for a lot less, and without having to change out of your jammies.

Fruit smoothie heaven in about a minute, my friends.

The final frontier: nut butters.

In my mind, the mark of a truly great blender is one that can turn whole nuts into a creamy nut spread without the smoke alarm going off because the motor is burning out. You know, the kind that makes you feel all good about yourself because it’s natural with nothing but the right stuff in it – no additives or other funky chemicals to make it shelf stable. To test how the Wolf Gourmet blender would do I just chucked in some peanuts and cashews. I didn’t have much direction, so I consulted the Wolf Gourmet blog and followed the directions to turn my peanuts into peanut butter.

It was a multi-step process using the manual controls making the whole operation seem like an exercise in learning how to drive a stick shift (spoiler alert: my nut butter turned out better than my stick shift driving lessons). There were a few panicked moments where stuff wasn’t moving and the motor was roaring like the whole blender might take off in flight, but I used the included handy-dandy tampering tool to get it all going again and all was well.

In the end, I got a smooth and mostly creamy peanut butter that I pretty much wanted to slather on everything. Bagels, toast, apples, other people (just kidding!)… you get the picture.

The Verdict

This is one powerful blender. So much, in fact, that it’s almost intimidating. The book that arrives in the box doesn’t go too far to get you started (would be nice if there were some ‘starter’ recipes to get some excitement going, but it’s a minor critique). This blender is a great option for someone who loves blending things – drinks, smoothies, soups (seriously, it heats the soup!), nut butters, sauces, milkshakes (next on my list!), and batters (think pancake, muffin, quick breads). There are a million and one things you could make with this amazing blender rendering other appliances (looking at you, food processor) almost useless.

As the case with all their products, Wolf Gourmet stands behind their blender with a 5-year warranty so there’s peace of mind putting this work horse to good use in the kitchen.

Also, I so love that red knob. Classic.

  1. I would make smoothies to start with, then soups! Would also try making my own peanut butter. And then whatever…. This sounds like an amazing blender.
