This Blueberry Oatmeal is easy to make in about 10 minutes and tastes better than the packets you get at the store. It’s creamy and lightly spiced, with juicy blueberries in every bite. In other words, an amazing way to start the day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup old-fashioned oats
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar (see note)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup blueberries (frozen or fresh)
  • 2 tablespoons  whole milk (see note)
  • Optional toppings: extra blueberries, chopped roasted almonds, and a splash of cream.

Instructions

  1. Bring the water to a simmer in a small saucepan. Add the oatmeal and lower the heat to medium. Cook and stir the oatmeal for about five minutes. There shouldn’t be very much water.
  2. Stir in the sugar, ginger, cinnamon, and blueberries. Lower the heat to medium-low and stir until the berries are warmed through.
  3. Add the milk, stir, and transfer the oatmeal to a bowl. Top with the cream if using.

Notes

You can adjust the sugar to your taste or omit it if you don’t want it as sweet.

Any milk will work in this recipe, including non-dairy milk.
