Peanut Butter and Chocolate Bars


Description

These decadent peanut butter and chocolate bars, adapted from Ina Garten, go great with a cup of coffee or a cold glass of milk.


Ingredients

  • 1/4 pound unsalted butter, melted, plus 2 tablespoons unmelted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 8 ounces milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat an 8×8 glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and egg. Add the peanut butter and stir until well combined.
  3. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt until combined. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ones in batches until just combined.
  4. Place the chocolate chips and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the chips in 30-second increments, stirring after every 30 seconds, until the chocolate is melted.
  5. Scoop half of the peanut butter batter into the baking dish. Press it into an even layer. Top the batter with the melted chocolate smoothing it into an even layer with a spatula. Scoop small mounds of the rest of the peanut butter batter and drop them on the chocolate in an even layer. Gently press the batter into an even layer.
  6. Bake the bars for 30 minutes to 35 minutes or until lightly browned on top. Cool in the pan completely before slicing. Store in an airtight container.
