Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 3/4 cup 2% milk
- 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
For the Topping:
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 3 ounces chopped dark chocolate
- 1 1/4 cups 2% milk
Optional Toppings:
- Fresh berries
- Powdered sugar
- Vanilla ice cream
Instructions
- Cake: In a large mixing bowl, mix the cake ingredients until smooth. Pour the batter into your slow cooker.
- Topping: In a small bowl, mix the cocoa powder, brown sugar, and chopped dark chocolate for the topping. Evenly distribute the mixture over the cake batter.
- Bring the almond milk to a boil in a medium saucepan, and then carefully pour it over the cake.
- Place the lid on the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for 1 1/2 hours. It's done when the cake is set around the edges, and the center is still wobbly.
- Scoop the cake into bowls and top the servings with powdered sugar, fresh berries, and ice cream if desired.
Notes
Chocolate note: This cake has a deep chocolate flavor that's not overly sweet. For a sweeter cake, use the same amount of semi-sweet chocolate or milk chocolate. You can use chopped chocolate or chocolate chips.
