Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast

This upgraded avocado toast is topped with everything bagel seasoning, smoked salmon, and fresh chives. It’s an easy breakfast that’s a little fancy-ish and a great way to start the day.

Some weeks, I make avocado toast two or three times (the craving comes in waves), but those iterations are not usually worth writing home about. They’re often just toast topped with a mash of avocado with maybe a sprinkle of salt or a slice of cheese on top. Simple, yes, but recipe-worthy enough to share on this here blog? Not so much.

But every once in a while, I get a little fancier, which brings us to this smoked salmon avocado toast. It’s like avocado toast meets an everything bagel with lox, two things I love, and now I can have the best of both in a five-minute breakfast.

How to Make It

Five ingredients, no cooking (unless you count the toasting), and five minutes. This avocado toast is so simple. I also love the flavors and textures – the smoky salmon with the creamy avocado is offset by a generous sprinkle of everything bagel seasoning, which adds flavor and a little crunchy texture. Chives add a pop of freshness for the finishing touch.

Smoked salmon takes regular avocado toast to a whole new level, especially when you add a sprinkle of everything bagel seasoning and fresh chives. It’s a delicious way to start the day.

  • 2 slices whole grain bread
  • 4 ounces sliced smoked salmon
  • 1 medium avocado, mashed
  • 1 teaspoon everything bagel seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon sliced chives


  1. Toast the bread, scoop out the avocado from the skin, discard the pit, and lightly mash the avocado in a small bowl.
  2. Spread avocado on each piece of toast. Sprinkle the everything bagel seasoning over the top. Top the avocado with the salmon, and sprinkle the chives over the top.

For some extra oomph, a fried egg would not be out of place here. Especially if the yolk is a little runny.

Fresh chives work so well here, but if I don’t have them on hand, I use chopped fresh parsley. Other finishing touches you might like are thin-sliced red onion or a few capers sprinkled on top.

There are all kinds of options for the toast part, so use your favorite. I like the texture of whole-grain bread, but I think sourdough bread will be the next one I try. I’ve also made it with flourless bread made from sprouted grains (like Ezekiel bread).
